Great service

I recently was looking for my car keys and the mail guy stopped what he was doing and helped me and we found them. Thank you, mail guy.

Michelle Obama

Neither the day-after political propaganda of David Limbaugh, the sadly nostalgic yearnings of Michael Jensen nor the elderly emanations from once rational Thomas Sowell kept me from the ecstasy I felt as a result of the previous night's effervescent address from first lady Michelle Obama.

Unemployment

If we make the federal government smaller and eliminate departments, won't that actually add to unemployment? I'm not sure how that's supposed to work.

DNC anti-Christian

The recent DNC was alarming, almost blasphemous. I would not call someone the Antichrist, but I will say the Democratic platform is very anti-Christian. To proclaim nationally and in front of God that they support abortion on demand and same sex (so-called) marriage is a wake up call. Christians should be in the streets protesting and denouncing the Democratic Party for these offenses to our God.

Obamanomics

Thank goodness on-the-right-track Obamanomics has surpassed the failed supply-side, trickle-down theory of Ronald Reagan.

Debt, Boehner

As the national debt swelled past $16 trillion, Republican House Speaker John Boehner accused President Barack Obama of lacking the "courage" to work with his political foes to rein in entitlement spending and overhaul the tax code. It is impossible to work with anybody who will do nothing but say "no." What is to be said of those who have a rating of maybe 10 percent or less confidence from the American people? Especially when they keep holding out for the rich and themselves.

Romney's speech

Mitt Romney's failure to pay tribute to or even mention the troops in Afghanistan at his acceptance speech was a snub of such major proportions that all patriotic Americans will retaliate with an almost uncontrollable furor at the ballot box.

Proud, ashamed

Four years ago, Michelle Obama said that for the first time in her life she was proud of America. When her husband got elected president of this great country was the first time that I have ever been ashamed of it.

Discarding God

The Democrat Party went to great efforts to discard God from its platform and insert homosexual marriage. Can it be made anymore clear that the Democrats have become anti-Christian, anti-Israel, anti-Bible, anti-God, anti-church and anti-life. The DNC is truly a coalition of the godless proposing to supplant God as the source of our rights, and provider of our sustenance.

Better off

Yes, we are better off since Obama became our president. If it had been left up to the Republicans, we would have been in a deep recession as they would not have bailed out the car companies. That in turn would have put a lot more businesses out of business. They could have helped by letting Bush's tax cuts for the rich stop, but no, they just want to keep trying to bring down our country, only to try to make Obama look bad. But they have not been able to do so. He has done more without the help of Congress with its wonderful rating of just 10 percent.

Cape Splash

Cape Splash had another good year. Some thought it was a waste of money. But they built it and the people came. What they should do is add a wave for the people that will keep some from going to other parks. They owe that to the people that have been coming and made them a success.

Scam alert

I just recently put an ad in the paper for a puppy I'm selling and ended up in a scam. Beware if someone texts you about your ad. He told me he could not speak over the phone due to a hearing impairment. He sent me a check that I deposited but was no good. Thank God I didn't fall for it. He will try to get you to Western Union a shipper money. Beware, this is a scam.

Rental code

I've heard before that the city of Cape Girardeau already has the power to enforce a rental code. If that is so, why doesn't the city just do it? The short answer is that the city is really interested in the huge revenue it'll get by charging fees to rental property owners. This in turn will be passed along to the renter and will drive up rental costs. A tax increase on renters from the conservative, no-tax city council. Great!

Romney's problem

George Will's columns illustrate Mitt Romney's problem. Will's focus is all anti-Obama, all the time, with little or no praise for Mitt Romney.

Clinton speech

The most simple truth about this presidential campaign was stated by Bill Clinton when he said: "In Tampa, the Republican argument against the president's re-election was pretty simple: We left him a total mess, he hasn't finished cleaning it up yet, so fire him and put us back in."

Repeal ordinance

A handful of people started the deer hunting issue. Six city council members passed the ordinance. Almost 4,000 citizens recently signed a petition indicating they were opposed to deer hunting in Cape Girardeau. That is what is referred to as the proverbial two-by-four over the head. I hope our elected officials can draw from this overwhelming response the need to repeal this ordinance without spending thousands of dollars in taxpayers' money.

Kelly football

Congratulations to Kelly High School for starting its first football program Aug. 27 playing against Scott City. Thanks to Fred Cruz, the director of the American Legion 369 of Benton, for doing the honor guard for the game. Thank you.

Bush tax cuts

The "job creators" have enjoyed the Bush tax cuts for 10 years. So where are the jobs?

Gas prices

The gas stations are at it again. They're raising the price on what they already got in the tanks.
