Southeast Missouri State men's basketball coach Dickey Nutt is fired up about his program's third annual tipoff reception and coaches clinic.

SIU Carbondale coach Barry Hinson will be the special guest for the Oct. 11 tipoff reception event that serves as a major fundraiser.

"We are very excited. We're looking forward to a great evening and hope all Redhawk fans can join us," Nutt said. "We think it will be another great day for Southeast basketball, and we appreciate coach Hinson being our special guest. I've known him a long time and he's a very good friend of mine."

The tipoff reception will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Dalhousie Golf Club. Tickets are $125 each, with all proceeds benefiting the men's basketball program. To order tickets or for more information, call 651-2005.

"It's a big event for our program. We want people to get behind our program as we continue to develop," Nutt said. "It's a good time to shake a lot of hands, mingle with a lot of our supporters, ask for everybody's support. We've had a very good response the last two years, and we look for that to continue."

The tipoff reception will cap a full day of basketball activity Oct. 11 that begins with Southeast's annual coaches clinic from 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m.

This year's guest speakers are Hinson; Tony Barone Sr., director of player personnel for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies; and Mark Imhoff, who retired this summer as the all-time winningest coach at John A. Logan (Ill.) College.

"All three have had tremendous success during their careers, and we're very pleased they're going to join us for the day," Nutt said.

The clinic at the Show Me Center, designed for coaches on all levels and also open to any fan age 18 and over, costs $50. Lunch will be provided at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Nutt said the turnout for the first two coaches clinics was impressive.

"We've had coaches from quite a few states," Nutt said. "It's going to be a great day to listen to some basketball and learn things. Any high school coach, man or woman, can pick up some things.

"It's great for our staff. We're able to meet a lot of coaches from the area and outside the area. It's going to be a great day of basketball."
