A Cape Girardeau motorist is unhurt after an accident around 11 a.m. Tuesday that involved her car crashing into the lower story of an apartment building.

According to a spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the driver was about to leave a parking lot at 3021 Mimosa Drive when her foot slipped off the brake of her Chevy Impala and landed on the gas pedal. The vehicle then raced across the parking lot and drove through nearby shrubbery, finally stopping after it rammed into the apartment building at 3022 Themis St.

The vehicle hit four service lines leading into the building, which left 16 apartment units without electricity for a few hours.

No charges were filed against the driver, but her car was towed due to damage done to its steering.
