PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Norbert R. Ponder, 83, of Perryville died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Perry County, son of Anton and Bertha Unterreiner Ponder. He and Antonia M. Meyer were married April 29, 1961, at Apple Creek, Mo.

Norbert was a farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Apple Creek and the men's organization.

He served in the National Guard 24 years.

Survivors include his wife, Antonia Ponder of Perryville; four sons, Ronald (Faye) Ponder, Michael (Kim) Ponder and Daniel (Jessica) Ponder, all of Altenburg, Mo., Thomas (Cindy) Ponder of Perryville; three daughters, Mary (Robert) Roth of Frohna, Mo., Marty (Tim) Scholl of Jackson, Julie (Troy) Petzoldt of Frohna; two brothers, Robert (Tootie) Ponder of St. Ann, Mo., Edgar (Judy) Ponder of Perryville; a sister, Genevieve Schloss of Cape Girardeau; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Wibbenmeyer and Antonia Schnurbusch.

Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Family Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 6 tonight. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church at Apple Creek, with the Rev. Tony Dattilo officiating. Graveside military honors courtesy of American Legion Post 133 and Delta Team.
