Ruby D. Session, 83, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, in Jefferson City, Mo., with her family nearby.

She was born March 1, 1929, in Midnight, Miss., to James and Magnolia Session. Her father was a farmer in Holly Bluff, Miss. Ruby's mom was a homemaker.

Ruby's fondest childhood memories were spent at her grandparents Williams estate adjacent to Panther Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Holly Bluff. Ruby finished the sixth grade.

Following her marriage separation, Ruby migrated from rural Mississippi to Jackson, Miss., to Memphis, Tenn., to St. Louis. Lastly, Ruby settled in Southeast Missouri, first near Essex where she received a nurse aide certificate, raised her children and retired. Ruby's next migration was to Cape Girardeau, where she lived 29 years on North Spanish Street.

In Cape Girardeau, Ruby was an elder in the True Christian Pentecostal Witness Church and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Ruby's interests included quilting, cooking, gardening and reading the Bible. She committed much of her life to her immediate family as a caregiver, literally, in loco parentis (in place of parents) and across generations she supplemented her extended family.

Ruby is survived by four sisters, Magnolia Gainwell of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Marion Session and Willie Ruth Bonner of Jefferson City, Evelyn Perryman of Indianapolis; two brothers, Alfred Session of Venice, Ill., Aaron Session of Louise, Miss.; two sons, Curtis Session Sr., Michael Session; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death on her father's side of the family by grandparents Jance Session and Mary Jane Wyatt-Session; and on her mother's side of the family by Henry Williams and Magnolia "Maggie" Campbell-Williams; her parents, James and Magnolia Session; a brother, James Session Jr.; a sister, Gertrude Session-Smoot; two sons, David Session and Milton Session; and a granddaughter, Alexis N. Session.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Delbert Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
