CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Maureen Catherine McCarthy Carman, 70, of Charleston died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Charleston Manor.

She was born Jan. 6, 1942, in St. Louis, to Vincent and Kathryn Bennett McCarthy.

She graduated from Ritenour High School in Overland, Mo., and continued her education at Barnes Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1962. She was employed 13 years at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where she was a secretary 10 years, was an academic adviser, and later was advising coordinator at Harrison College of Business.

Maureen retired in 2000 and continued to volunteer as secretary at the Newman Center at Southeast University. She later worked as a part-time secretary at St. Henry Catholic School in Charleston. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.

She and Ernest Carman were married Oct. 20, 1962.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Lana Carman of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Lisa Stallings of Charleston; six grandchildren, Stephen, David and Troy Carman, all of Cape Girardeau, Catherine, Mollina and Frank Stallings, all of Charleston.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jeff Stallings.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McMikle Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Catholic Church. Monsignor Richard Rolwing of Cape Girardeau and the Rev. Patrick Ike Nwokoye, campus minister of the Newman Center in Cape Girardeau, will concelebrate. Interment will be in Texas Bend Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Ohmes, David Carman, John Carman, Robert Carman, Tim Harvell and Joe Dark.
