Young Americans 4-H

The September Meeting of the Young Americans 4-H Club was called to order by Tricia Kirchdoerfer on Sept. 20 at Grace Methodist Church. "The Pledge of Allegience" was led by Natalie Timpe and Clayton Kirchdoerfer led the 4-H Pledge. Roll Call was answered by "What did you take to the Fair and what Ribbons did you win?"

There were 18 Members, 9 adults attending the meeting. Visitors included Abbey Brandon who was voted in as a new member. Other visitors included Lauren McClanahan, Cheyenne Jaco, Vlayssa Webster and Laniah Webster.

Project meetings included Caitlin Allen and Lindsay Allen reporting on a foods meeting with two members and a Leader and wildlife Meeting at the Endangered Wolf Sanctuary with two members and a leader. Grant Schaefer also reported on doing a working demonstration in woodworking at the Riverfront Market and turned in some donations he received.

Gary Schweer reported on the state competition for trap shooting in August, where he placed fourth in senior doubles and showed his plaque. Cort Hutchason reported on the state skeet competition in September where he placed second and showed his winning medal.

The club participated in the SEMO Fair Parade on a wagon decorated by the Clifton family and driven by Roy Davault and his antique tractor.

Club members Mia Foote and Ellie Foote, Grant Schaefer, Jordan and Jasmine Smith and Belinda Strack with help from parents, Aaron Foote, Molly Schaefer, Bonnie Strack, Carolyn Rainey and Diane Schweer, decorated a large round bale at the SEMO District Fair for patrons to view. It was a ferris wheel theme.

Members worked the fair stand on Tuesday night of the fair and teardown was on Sunday morning. The Foote and Schaefer families helped with this.

Working demonstrations at the exhibit hall on Friday night of the fair included Alex Eftink, Anthony Strack, and Grant Schaefer. Schaefer also greeted patrons and showed them some of his projects.

The new officers of Tyler Kirchdoerfer, president; Belinda Strack, vice president; Anthony Strack, secretary; Alex Eftink, treasurer; Aspen Clifton and Mia Foote, song leaders; and Natalie Timpe and Clayton Kirchdoerfer, game leaders, were installed by Diane Schweer with a program of "cooking up a good meeting."

Tricia Kirchdoerfer was awarded a plaque, a John Deere crown, and sash for being an 11-year member. Gary Schweer was awarded a plaque and sash for being a 10-year member. They also received individual Decorated Cakes which were shared with the other members.

Meeting was adjourned and motions made by Gary Schweer and seconded by Caitlin Allen.

Oak Ridge FCE

Oak Ridge FCE held their annual picnic Sept. 18. Peggy Barks was the hostess.

After dinner was served club president Jean Rehak called the meeting to order with pledges to the flags. There were 13 members and two guests present. Roll call was your personal goal. Nelda Crader gave the devotion "how to stay young."

The secretary and treasurer reports were not given.

Rehak gave a report on the quarterly council meeting held Sept. 6.

Autism work day will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 30 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. More material is needed for this county project.

Betty Dellinger reported and passed out sheets on the club's yearly Christmas give away held in December for needy families and children. It was noted more boys' items were needed.

Officers for 2013 were elected: Crader, president; Rehak, vice president; Pat Hecht, treasurer; Barbara Barks, secretary; Mariesa Lesch, games; and Carol Jo Byrd, historian.

FCE Fall Leader Training will be held Nov. 16 at Salem Lutheran School in Farrar, Mo. Registration and welcome starts at 1 p.m. mini-vacation by a travel agent, aphasia by a speech therapist will be held 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., and India, benefits and eating own food by Judy Lueders will be held 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. RSVP should be made by Nov. 1, and reservation may be made by contacting Extension Office.

Coins for Friendship and flower fund were collected.

Bingo at Veterans Home was held on Sept. 24 with Lee Anderson, Dellinger, and Rehak attending.

Cape County Wild Horse 4-H

Cape County Wild Horse 4-H Rodeo club met on Sept. 17, at Dance Extensions in Jackson. President Logan Wessel called the meeting to order. Pledges were lead by Paige Cooper. Roll Call was name your favorite cartoon character and was answered by 12 members. Four project leaders were also present. "Happy Birthday" was sang to Michaela Lee and was lead by song leader, Trenton Beard.

The secretary's report was tabled until October and the treasurer's report was given by Sidney Robertson.

Asreil Grow, Lee, Beard, Wessel, and Cooper reported on the projects they took to the SEMO District Fair. They also reported on working the 4-H stand on Sept. 12.

New officers were elected for the 2013 year. They will be: Emilie Beard, president; Jessica Gray, vice president; Sidney Robertson, secretary; Katelyn Robertson, treasurer; Michaela Lee and Trenton Beard, song/game leaders; Reagan Hyde, reporter; Asreil Grow and Paige Cooper, historians; and Mary Gray and Lisa Lee, club leaders.

Beard made a motion to accept the slate of officers and Lee seconded.

Lee gave an illustrated talk on chicken combs, why chickens have them and the different kinds,

Lee made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Beard seconded. The meeting was adjourned.

Twenty two members were served a luncheon with a Halloween theme by our hostesses Jane Grojean, Donna Heinze and Madeline Hente, at the Oct. 10 meeting. Catherine Allison won the 50/50 and attendance prizes were won by Donna Hinze, Linda Kern, Edna Smith and Jerry Stone.

Following the opening prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and recitation of our proclamation. Frieda Howard was recognized for her 50-year membersip with Unit 63. She was presented with a note pad and a monetary gift.

Linda Kern and Barbara Yallaly will attend the Fall Conference Friday through Sunday in Jefferson City, Mo. Members voted on a contribution to offset their mileage and room expenses. Members also voted to donate funds for the purchase of gifts for the Christmas Gift Shop at the Missouri Veterans Home; the gift shop at John J. Pershing Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.; $100 for the purchase of telephone cards for service men and women; and to the USO at Fort Leonard Wood and the Salvation Army.

The auxiliary will participate in the shoe box project for the Operation Christmas Child. Items to be placed in the shoebox can include games, small gifts. candy etc. and will be delivered by Samaritan's Purse, headquarted in Boone, N.C.

The group will also bring small gift items to be delivered to Jefferson Elementary School for the students Christmas Gift Shop. The auxiliary will also give drinks and snacks to the Alternative School on Make a Difference Day.

Work assignments were distributed to the members for the ham and bean day to be held Nov. 1 and members were reminded to bring two cakes for the event.

Due to the family Thanksgiving dinner in November there will not be a monthly meeting. The next meeting will be our annual Christmas Party on Dec. 14. Please watch the November Post Peep for details.

Kage FCE Club

Kara Clark Summers was hostess when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for their regular monthly meeting. The devotional was presented by Summers. The meeting was called to order by President Dortha Strack.

Sarah Ross reminded members not to forget their "pal" at the Fountainbleau Lodge.

Several members are participating in the crystal club at the Lutheran Home and the reading program at Jefferson Elementary School.

The next workshop for the autism project is on Halloween at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Volunteers for the autism project are invited to come in costume. Strack has hosted two "stripping parties" for the autism project. Another is planned before the next workshop.

Items were collected for Birthright at this meeting. This was the service project for the month.

"Friends of our troops" Christmas cards, the military mail project for 2012, will be collected at the next meeting. No "glitter" cards will be accepted and members were encouraged not to use envelopes.

The leader training sessions for the new year were announced. They are as follows: Nov. 16: Aphasia, benefits of producing and eating own foods, India, and mini vacations. March 18, 2013: new health plan, foods from foreign countries, autism, and dangers of vitamins and supplements.

Recipes were collected for the club cookbook for members. Each member is to contribute 10 assorted recipes for the success of this project. A decision will be made at a later date whether or not to re-print and distribute further. Shirley Palen and Judie Herbst will type the recipes for publication.

The dues for the national, state, county and club were paid by members.

Membership forms will be completed at the October meeting.

The following slate of officers was presented by the nominating committee: Strack, president; Jobyna Daume, vice president; Palen, secretary; and Herbst, treasurer.

Before the meeting the program was presented by Drew Blattner from the Archive Center in Jackson. He spoke about the history of the old Kage School. The school was built in 1880 and used until 1966. It was built at a cost of $1,600. The school remained open until May 20, 1966 when it was closed. At the time it was closed, there were 19 students enrolled.

Ramona Brinkopf will host the next meeting at the Senior Center in Cape Girardeau.

Lamplighter FCE

The Lamplighters FCE Club September meeting was held in the home of Beverly Meyer. There were 11 members present.

During the business session, updates of previous meetings were reviewed. They were as follows: The July meeting found eight members convening in David Bogenpohl's shop to make "bead projects" for the fall district meeting. Money was given to TouchPoint Autism Center. A thank you was received from Gayla Volz for the meals taken to her during her convalescence. Plans were finalizied for the August meeting.

In August the club convened at the First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge to carpool to Hilltop Creations near New Hamburg. There were 10 members present. Members decided to continue reading to the students at Oak Ridge School and to give a donation to the school for school supplies. Linda Sebaugh gave a program on "women and heart disease."

September's business included: Thank-you notes received from TouchPoint and Oak Ridge Schools for the donations to them. The club decided on which bead projects to take to the fall district meeting held at the University of Missouri Extension Center on Oct. 11. Sebaugh and Meyer volunteered to take breakfast items and Teresa Hinkebein and Jo Ann Hahs volunteered to take desserts to this meeting.

Members signed-up for fall leader training: Aphasia: Hinkebein; India: Sebaugh; benefits of producing and eating own food: Karen Eakers.

A donation was given to the Arnsburg 4-H Club. A card was sent to Burt Hahs, a recent burn victim, and plans will be finalized in 2013 on ways to help him. Members are to bring items for a care package for a soldier in Afghanistan to the October meeting.

Officers for 2013 were elected. They are as follows: Jackie Kurre, president; Sharon Bogenpohl, vice president; Verla Mangels, secretary; Linda Sebaugh, treasurer, Roberta Allen, song leader; Bev Meyer, game leader; and Jo Ann Hahs, reporter.

Members were reminded of the upcoming trip sponsored by the County FCE to see the Carl Hurley Show in Paducah, Ky., and that the October meeting will be held in the home of Roberta Allen with the program being on Egypt

Hahs gave programs on made in the U.S.A. and it's never too late to learn.
