OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Vernon "Butch" Henderson Jr., 62, of Olive Branch died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born in Cairo, Ill., on Feb. 6, 1950, to Vernon Henderson Sr. and Helen Juanita Garrett Henderson. He married Alice Oakes on Jan. 1, 1971.

Butch was a devoted Christian and a member of Unity Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Alice of Olive Branch; their three children, Kevin Eugene (fiancee Machelle Probst) Henderson of Olive Branch, Scott Allen (Deanna) Henderson of Jackson and Tammy Marie (fiance Steven Scott) Henderson of Milan, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Triston and Cody Henderson, Kacey and Hannah Moore and Andrew, Jeffery and Joseph Coleson; his mother, Helen Juanita Henderson of Olive Branch; three brothers, Larry Henderson (Judy Zeschke) of Thebes, Ill., Paul (Debbie) Henderson and Gary (Angie) Henderson, both of Olive Branch; two sisters, Rosie (Melvin) Lawrence of Tamms, Ill., and Brenda (George) Calvert of Murphysboro, Ill.; 10 nieces and nephews; 26 great-nieces and -nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Henderson Sr.; brother Michael Dean Henderson; nephew Vernon Wayne Henderson; niece Angie Marie Henderson; and a great-nephew, Michael Paul Henderson Jr.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family to offset expenses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
