SIKESTON, Mo. -- The top-seeded Sikeston Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals of the Class 4, District 1 playoffs with a 71-7 victory over eighth-seeded Perryville Pirates.

The Bulldogs scored 45 points in the first quarter and added 26 points in the second quarter to take a 71-0 halftime lead.

The clock ran the entire second half, even on a Perryville touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Sikeston junior running back Chris Word scored five touchdowns in the game and senior linebacker Aundrea Golden had two interception returns.

Sophomore running back Marquez Newman rushed for 169 yards on four carries, including touchdown runs of 39 and 93 yards.

Perryville ends its season at 3-7.

Sikeston (9-1) will host No. 4 seed Cape Central, 31-6 winners over Festus, on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
