1987

Plans are proceeding on development of a proposed storm water management ordinance, but City Council members say a method of financing storm water retention structures needs to be determined before an ordinance is adopted.

Jackson voters approve a one-half cent sales tax proposition; the new tax is expected to raise around $350,000 annually for roadway improvements and additions.

1962

Construction projects on the State College campus totaling $2,950,000 are being pushed by contractors in an effort to meet deadlines before winter's snows fly; projects under construction include the $2,500,000 multi-dormitory complex in the Home of the Birds, the $350,000 mathematics annex to Magill Hall of Science, a $100,000 renovation job on the old Science Building, and several other campus improvements.

It is reported that construction of the new junior high school at Caruthers and Thilenius is about 10 percent complete; the project is still on a ground and sub-ground level.

1937

First definite steps are taken in a formal action by the Lions Club for an All-Southeast Missouri Day at the big M.I.A.A. championship football game in Cape Girardeau Nov. 19 between the undefeated Teachers College Indians and the Warrensburg Teachers College Mules; the college votes unanimously to ask all business houses in the city to close during the game.

Dean Vest C. Myers of the Teachers College will be guest speaker at the dedication program for the new high school building at Patton, Mo., Sunday; the building, a two-story structure built of native limestone, cost about $22,000; it was a WPA project.

1912

The Rev. W.A. Haynes of Mineral Wells, Texas, who was here recently and preached three excellent sermons at the Christian Church, begins a revival meeting in the morning, which will continue indefinitely.

The Right Rev. Daniel S. Tuttle, bishop of Missouri, and presiding bishop of the American Episcopal Church, confirms a large class at Christ Episcopal Church.
