Vernon E. Meyr, 78, of New Wells passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 7, 1934, near New Wells, to Edward C. and Esther E. Huttegger Meyr. He and Shirley M. Amelunke were married Aug. 8, 1964, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.

He attended the former Immanuel Lutheran Grade School in New Wells and then attended Jackson High School. He was a self-employed farmer of livestock and crops.

Vernon was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells, serving through the years as an elder and an usher. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the Missouri Cattlemen's Association.

Loving survivors include his wife of 48 years, Shirley of New Wells; two daughters, Linda (Tom) Schreiner and Karen (David) Roth of Old Appleton; four granddaughters, Andrea and Alison Schreiner, Lydia and Myra Roth.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
