Chaffee upsets Kelly girls

Chaffee turned the tables on Kelly less than a week after losing to the Hawks.

The sixth-seeded Red Devils upset the third-seeded Hawks 59-36 Wednesday night in the final opening-round game of the 36th annual Lady Devils Invitational girls basketball tournament.

Host Chaffee (3-1) avenged Thursday's six-point loss to the Hawks (1-1) as the Red Devils advance to play seventh-seeded East Prairie in today's 7:30 p.m. semifinal.

Ellie Sigman paced Chaffee with 22 points and Adrienne Eichhorn added 11 as the Red Devils led 31-14 at halftime and never looked back.

Samantha Ratledge led Kelly with nine points.

Top-seeded Woodland cruised into Saturday's championship game with a 41-29 win over fourth-seeded Scott City in a semifinal.

Josie Long poured in 27 points for the Cardinals (4-0).

Alicia Kern led the Rams (1-3) with 10 points.

Also Wednesday, eighth-seeded Oran upset fifth-seeded Sikeston 47-45 in a consolation semifinal as the Eagles advanced to Saturday's consolation final.

Addie Kielhofner led the Eagles with 15 points. She was followed by Taylor Nenninger with 13 and Christian Sauceda with 11. Sauceda hit all three of Oran's 3-pointers.

Sikeston's Erica Peet scored 23 points but the Bulldogs were hurt by making just 6 of 20 free throws.

Today's other game will feature a consolation semifinal between second-seeded Delta and third-seeded Kelly at 6 p.m.
