There were 20 members in attendance Jan. 9 for the American Legion Auxiliary's first meeting in 2013. Barbara Yallaly provided loaded-baked potatoes and hot dogs. Our New Year tradition is to read fortunes from the fortune cookies provided by Yallaly.

The 50/50 was won by Shirley Young and the attendance prize awarded to Donna Hinze.

Cathryn Allison gave the prayer prior to the meal and also at the beginning of the business session.

The charter was draped in memory of Eloise Roth, who recently passed away. A memorial will be sent to charity of her family's choice.

Linda Kern reported 110 members paid their 2013 dues and the auxiliary is 56 shy of its goal. Kern also asked members to bring socks, hats, gloves, etc. for the students of Jefferson Elementary School.

A thank-you note was read from Operation Christmas Child for the support in sending shoe box gifts to boys and girls around the world. A total of 19,861 boxes were recieved.

A report of services available at the Amen Center was given by Reba Strayhorn and it was voted each member bring a box of soap powder or dryer sheets to the February meeting to help with the large amount of laundry at the Center.

Please bring food items for the Red Star Food Pantry to the next meeting, Feb. 13.
