Jane McKeown

Jane Doughty McKeown, 88, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Farmington Presbyterian Manor.

She was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Cape Girardeau to Harry and Louise Meyer Doughty.

Jane was a bright woman and graduated from Central High School in 1941 at the age of 16. In her early years, she made sure her children had frequent library visits and that they did their homework. She was proud of the fact that her four eldest children were college graduates. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle whiz. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

For many years Jane was a devoted caretaker of Joe Pat, her son with Down syndrome. He preceded her in death in 2004.

While living at the Presbyterian Manor in Farmington, Mo., Jane made many new friends and lived out her life in peace.

She leaves four children, Jane (Don) Neumeyer of Madison, Wis., Jim (Nena) McKeown of Fort Worth, Texas, Susan (Paul) Watkins of Ballwin, Mo., and Steve (Darla) McKeown of Herrin, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by six siblings, Harry, William and Morris "Dutch" Doughty, Dorothy Koch, Florence Duschell, and her identical twin, Janet Gaines.

There is no visitation.

A private graveside service will be held at the Doughty plot in Fairmount Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family wishes to thank the Presbyterian Manor staff and hospice services for the loving care of their mother. The rest of the children wish to thank their sister Susan for her special attention to the quality of Mother's life in her final years.
