Winds gusting to nearly 50 mph yesterday sent thermometers soaring to record and near-record highs in Missouri; in Cape Girardeau, a new record high for the date was set at 4 p.m., when the thermometer at the municipal airport reached 68 degrees.

The Southeast Missouri State University Student Government is conditionally supporting the university's move to NCAA Division I athletics; among those conditions is that Southeast join the Ohio Valley Conference.

Postal officials in December took options on a site on West Broadway, on the south side of the street west of Caruthers Avenue, as a possible future site for a new post office; also in the running as a possible choice is at Bellevue and Frederick.

Romancing coeds at State College residence halls just got more difficult; through a special edict, male students are told that signs of affection in the lounges will be limited to holding hands; women students were given an imaginary circle in the front entrance of Dearmont Quadrangle where one good-night kiss would be allowed.

The Missourian's annual cooking school opened yesterday with the largest first-day crowd ever; Broadway Theater was packed to capacity to hear lecturer Emily M. Lautz; the second session this afternoon also jams the theater; the standing-room-only crowd is estimated at 1,500.

Plans and estimates for the proposed addition to Saint Francis Hospital have been received from St. Louis architect Ralph Ranft; the contemplated addition would consist of a four-story wing about 50 by 150 feet to be built at the southwest corner of the present plant on Good Hope Street.

The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution entertained over 60 friends yesterday afternoon at the palatial home of Mrs. L.B. Houck; the residence was magnificently decorated in the national colors.

Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Baker of Sikeston, Mo., pass through Cape Girardeau and are joined by their daughter, Mrs. W.W. Hinchey, on their way to the inauguration of President-elect Woodrow Wilson; the party will visit Chicago and several other cities of the East and will make an extended tour; also in the party are Dr. and Mrs. E.A. Kendall of Sikeston.
