Shirley Ann Vaile Doemel, 77, of Jackson passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 19, 1936, in Green Bay, Wis., daughter of Harry Franklin and Florence Josephine Van den Busch Vaile.

She and George Doemel were married June 18, 1955, at St. Joseph's Church in Green Bay.

Shirley graduated from West High School in Green Bay in 1954. She worked from the time she was 16, including Stapleford's Grocery Store in Green Bay and Sears in Cheboygan, Mich. After moving to Cape Girardeau, she was merchandising assistant in J.C. Penney Infant Department. She was co-owner and manager of Paper Dolls Wallpapering Co. in Cape Girardeau.

She was a Cub Scout and Webelos den mother and a Girl Scout leader while in Green Bay and Cheboygan. She was co-founder/secretary/historian for Beyer High School Band Booster Organization in Modesto, Calif. She also was secretary and treasurer for Golden Arrow Archery Club in Green Bay.

Shirley for 17 years was secretary and treasurer of Bella Vista Property Owners Association, where she started and wrote the association's newsletter. She was a member of Tuesday Bridge Group for 34 years. Shirley was a fanatical Packers fan and ardent Republican. She loved her family, her Packers and her country. Shirley always will be known as a wonderful loving wife, mother and grandmother. "Meme."

In addition to her loving husband, survivors include two sons, Christopher Doemel of Kennesaw, Ga., and Todd (Debbie) Doemel of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Terri (Randy) Fluegge and Julene (Tom) Tojo of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Curtis and Sydney Doemel, Sarah (Christian) Oldenburg, Scott Doemel, Jessie Pool, Elizabeth (Dan) Gantner and Jordan and Jenna Tojo; two great-granddaughters, Annalise Pool and Samantha Oldenburg; a great-grandson, Benjamin Gantner; four brothers, Allen (Joann) Vaile of Green Bay, Larry (Sue) Vaile of Franksville, Wis., Harry Vaile of Concord, Calif., and Patrick Vaile of Green Bay; special cousins, Antoinette and Roger Schmidt; and numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Elizabeth Doemel; a sister, Patsy Vaile; and a brother, Jim Vaile.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. A parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m., with rosary following.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

It was Shirley's wish that in lieu of memorial donations, donors use those funds to spend time with a loved one doing something special together.
