Virgie Preusser, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at her home. She was born Jan. 7, 1929, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Wilson Howard and Anita Anna Best Steinborn. She and Ralph Villhard were married Dec. 9, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. He passed away Jan. 15, 1973. She and Gustav Preusser were married Aug. 10, 1974, also at St. Paul...

Virgie Preusser, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at her home.

She was born Jan. 7, 1929, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Wilson Howard and Anita Anna Best Steinborn. She and Ralph Villhard were married Dec. 9, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. He passed away Jan. 15, 1973. She and Gustav Preusser were married Aug. 10, 1974, also at St. Paul.

Virgie graduated from the former College High School in Cape Girardeau. She worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau during the summer of her last year in high school. After graduation, she worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Cape Girardeau, where she was employed 37 years.

She was a member of Telephone Pioneers, American Legion Auxiliary 46 years, and several bowling leagues. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed attending their games. Although she was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, she was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

In addition to her husband, loving survivors include a brother, Howard (Martha) Steinborn of St. Louis; a sister, Viola (Garland) Buck of Charleston, Mo.; three nieces; two nephews; a great-niece; and five great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
