McCLURE, Ill. -- Milton E. "Sonny" Johnson, 75, of Dorsey, Ill., passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Alton Memorial Hospital, with his family at his side. He was born June 29, 1937, in McClure, son of Milton Franklin and Helen Irene Burris Johnson. He and Barbara A. Schenk were married May 4, 1958, in Aurora, Ill. She passed away Feb. 23, 2006...

McCLURE, Ill. -- Milton E. "Sonny" Johnson, 75, of Dorsey, Ill., passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Alton Memorial Hospital, with his family at his side.

He was born June 29, 1937, in McClure, son of Milton Franklin and Helen Irene Burris Johnson. He and Barbara A. Schenk were married May 4, 1958, in Aurora, Ill. She passed away Feb. 23, 2006.

Sonny graduated from Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, Ill., in 1955. He worked at Welder Industrial/Amerigas in Wood River, Ill., for 28 years. He was a 42-year member of Teamsters Local 525, serving as a trustee on the executive board and as a past president, a position he proudly served. He retired in 1999.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Jim) Gernigin of Dorsey, Trudy Adams of Bunker Hill, Ill., and Connie (Stan) Hartwick of Louisiana, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Susie (Les) Hale of Brighton, Ill.; two nieces, Dana (Paul) Witt and Wendy (Jeff) Moffat; three great-nephews; three great-nieces; and three cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen "Bootsie" and Van T. Lane; and their son.

In death, as in life, Sonny continues to help people, as he was an organ donor.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton, Ill.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Joe Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Ill.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children, both of which he was a huge supporter.
