Leona A. Friga, 76, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 8, 1936, in Dutchtown, daughter of Arthur and Hermina Obermann. She and Ralph L. Friga were married May 7, 1955, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Dutchtown.

Leona was a 1954 graduate of Chaffee High School. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, and was active in the quilting group that donates many of its quilts to raise funds for local charities. She served as secretary/treasurer of Friga Construction Co. Inc. in Springfield, Mo., and was a licensed beautician/cosmetologist. She was owner/operator many years of the former Leona's Beauty Shop in Jackson.

She took great pleasure in traveling around the state and country visiting her grandchildren. Leona loved her family and enjoyed being with them, and the feeling was mutual. She will be greatly missed.

Loving survivors include her husband of nearly 58 years; two sons, Randy (Marsha) Friga of Springfield and Steven Friga of Fredericksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Eric, Tara, Ryan and Sara Friga, Steve Friga Jr. and Erin Sumego; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Elliott, and another expected soon; a brother, Arthur Obermann of Jackson; and a sister, Joann Moore of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby, Elmer and Earl Obermann.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immaculate Conception Building Fund, Immaculate Conception School or Siteman Cancer Center.
