Landon Johnson's two-run single highlighted a three-run seventh innings as Woodland blanked Crystal City 3-0 in the opening round of the Oak Ridge Baseball Invitational Friday at Saxony Lutheran High School.

The outburst broke open a pitchers duel between Woodland's Aaron Yount and Crystal City's Sam Holst, who put up matching goose eggs through six innings.

Johnson relieved Yount in the bottom of the sixth, then got the win after setting down Crystal City in order in the bottom of the seventh.

"Aaron threw a really good game," said Woodland assistant coach Neil Johnson. "He kept the ball low, threw strikes, and we played good defense behind him."

Landon Johnson's single in the top of the seventh came with the bases loaded and the Cardinals leading 1-0. He ripped a fastball back up the middle that plated two insurance runs.

"We couldn't ask for anything else," Neil Johnson said. "He stayed back and hit the ball hard. You couldn't ask for a better game."

The Cardinals didn't fare as well in the second-round game, falling to Saxony Lutheran 8-6. Paris Johnson and Gabe Bohnert both hit doubles to lead the Crusaders.

Ethan Mirly was the winning pitcher and also doubled for Saxony Lutheran (5-4).

Landon Johnson hit a double to pace Woodland (7-6).
