Southeast Missouri State University's radio station, KRCU, could become an affiliate of National Public Radio under a plan being considered by the administration and the Department of Mass Communications.

The country group Alabama performs before a near sell-out crowd at the Show Me Center, singing many of its hits and ending the concert with some rock and roll favorites.

1963

Members of the Cape Girardeau police and fire departments, seeking to become covered by a pension plan, expect to submit a proposal to voters next April; representatives of both departments are studying plans of other cities and hope to adopt a program suitable for Cape Girardeau.

Construction of Cape Girardeau's proposed post office building on the northeast corner of Bellevue and Frederick streets is expected to begin this fall and be completed by mid-summer next year.

1938

Easter Sunday. The weather is perfect, with bright skies and moderate temperatures, providing a setting that brings out unprecedented thousands of worshipers to Cape Girardeau's churches; conservative estimates put the number attending the community sunrise service at Cape Rock at 3,000.

Hundreds of persons attend the sunrise Easter service at Memorial Park; the Rev. F.H. Melzer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, delivers the sermon.

1913

Jack Adkins, former policeman and expert horseman, loses his household goods in the morning when fire destroys the residence in which he and his family lived; the house stood near the Sloan Creek bridge and was a well-known place.

The Rev. E. Pruente, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, is in Keokuk, Iowa, where he is inspecting the great water-power dam, which crosses the Mississippi River at that point; he is expected back in Cape Girardeau this evening.
