John Avery

John C. Avery, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 23, 1918, in Gibson, Mo. to Martin Luther and Emma Summers Avery. He and Sarah Edith Drum Avery were married Oct. 2, 1940, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Feb. 6, 1998.

John served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic for Harris Truck and Trailer Sales, retiring in 1981.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole J. (Ronald) Adams of Festus, Mo., and Janice G. Wichern of West Plains, Mo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and five sisters.

A private graveside service will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
