At its 60th anniversary dinner at the Show Me Center last night, the Southeast Missouri Hospital Association presented the Board of Trustees Outstanding Service award to Carl L. Penzel, Rush H. Limbaugh, Charles Hood and Glenn Hutson.

A Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce subcommittee on recreation asks the city council to consider improving the four tennis courts at Capaha Park and suggests that two new courts be built at Arena Park; in reply, Park Commissioner J.W. McBride says steps are already being taken to upgrade the Capaha courts; however, he says there is no money in the city coffers to build new courts.

Herman Held of the Model Grocery in Illmo has purchased the interest of Walton Roth and is now sole owner of the business.

JEFFERSON CITY -- A commission to go to France to inspect the monument erected there to the memory of Missouri World War veterans is named by Gov. Lloyd C. Stark; those appointed are Maj. Gen. E.M. Stayton of Kansas City, commanding officer of the 5th Division of the National Guard; State Sen. E.A Barbour Jr., of Springfield, and State Rep. Robert M. Talbert of Cape Girardeau.

A total of 1,800 board feet of lumber was sawed from two oak logs at Garver Lumber Co. here recently; farmer Alvin Borgfield of Wolf Lake, Ill., brought the logs here and will use the lumber to build a barn; one of the logs was 11 feet long and the other 14 feet.

The "Do Drop Inn," formerly owned and operated by F. Abernathy and A. Green, is under new management; Green is now the sole proprietor of the restaurant at 216 N. Main St.

R.M. Cowan, who has been employed by the Bergmann-Bartels Store, and Henry Strain of the Roth Tobacco Co. have resigned their positions and have taken charge of the Princess Theater.
