Jon Holman, 64, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at his home.

He was born Sept. 18, 1948, in Detroit to R.L. and Philomena Bowen Holman.

Jon was a Vietnam War veteran, having served with the 82nd Airborne Division and later the 101st Airborne. During his service, Jon received numerous commendations including the Bronze Star.

He was a member of VFW Post 3838 many years. He loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and had a great love for animals.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Holman; four grandchildren, Hannah and Nicholas Wascher, Madison Eldred and Mason Surprenant, all of Manteno, Ill.; three sisters, Mary C. Holifield of Florida, Eileen B. Holman of Jackson and Heather Holman-Coon of Phoenix; an aunt, Viddia "Norma" Behen of St. Louis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a very special friend, Gloria Loughary of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Holman; and two sisters, Suzanne Gum and Laurie Holman.

A memorial service in celebration of Jon's life will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer as celebrant. Inurnment with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
