It is very irresponsible for the Obama administration to cut the budget on domestic bombing prevention by 45 percent, which he did according to the former director of Homeland Security. This was done several months back and you see what happened.
More bathrooms
I've been reading in the paper, the city council wants to start a dog park for them to run around. Why not put some bathrooms in Capaha Park? They can use the pipes from the old swimming pool and extend those out to the shelters. Bathrooms with privacy and cleanliness will be a big help to the park.
Our lovely city
To the caller who called into complain about our lovely city: I don't know where this person moved from, but get a grip. There are a lot of lovely things, places and people here in Cape Girardeau. I guess the caller hasn't lived here long enough. I've lived here for nearly 15 years and have never witnessed any of the things the caller described. There are so many lovely things about Cape Girardeau, I can look past those minor complaints.
Recycling
I like the Cape recycling center, but I wonder about "single stream recycling." Hopefully all the stuff I separate at home and take to the center doesn't end up in a landfill somewhere.
Surveillance cameras
Thank goodness for surveillance cameras. They should be put on every major intersection. Good work by the police, too; otherwise they never would have caught the bombing suspects.
Beautiful hymns
I just watched the Gaither Gospel Hour on TV. I am a senior citizen and have gone to the same church all my life. I love hearing all these old beautiful hymns that we grew up [with].

Underage drinking
Parents are responsible for their children's actions. Parents should stop their children from drinking and being irresponsible instead of covering up for them. Kids should let their parents go to jail for DWI. There wasn't a need for that case to go all the way up to the Supreme Court if the parents were responsible.
Wastewater
According to an article in the Cash Book Journal, the director of wastewater facilities said they treat 1.8 million gallons of wastewater in a day. Let's say Jackson has 15,000 people. That comes to 120 gallons of wastewater per person per day. What is going on to cause so much waste?
Gay couples
Now that homosexuals want to be like heterosexual couples, I wonder how they can have a baby? That's one of the ends of marriage and the foundation of any society. If you have a culture of only homosexuals, stuck on an island they will die out within a generation. How can they claim to be born the way they are if they are unable to procreate and thus pass on their homosexual genes to the next generation? That's a logical idea that no one wants to throw out there.
Levee breach
We need to keep reminding the Mississippi River Commission that operating the Birds Point spillway opened a new shortcut between New Madrid, Mo., and Cairo Ill. The water has to go past Cairo and if it helps Cairo, it hurts New Madrid and Caruthersville, Mo. The water gets to New Madrid faster. It hurts one town and a lot of landowners in between. It's best not to use explosives on the levee ever again.
Limbaugh, Lowry
If you missed David Limbaugh's and Rich Lowry's columns, you should read them. We need to band together to preserve our Judeo-Christian values, personal and family responsibility and the future of our society.
Crosswalks
I am a resident of Cape Girardeau. I passed through a crosswalk by Central Junior High and the students don't use the crosswalk. A student ran in front of me who wasn't using the crosswalk. Kids need to be educated to use crosswalks so they don't get killed needlessly.
