The crest is forecast at 40.5 feet at Cape Girardeau. Flood stage is 32 feet. At 40.5 feet, Wednesday's crest should top out lower than last month's high mark that saw the river reach almost 42 feet on the Cape Girardeau gauge.

Current predictions call for the river to fall by more than 1 foot by Saturday morning.
