A vehicle driven by Anna Edwards of Bloomfield, Mo., was struck in the rear at about 9 p.m. as she was westbound on U.S. 60. The collision caused the vehicles to leave the road. Edwards was ejected from the driver's seat. Her husband, C.G. Edwards, was a passenger in the vehicle. Both received serious injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle never regained control of his vehicle, crossing through the median and the eastbound lanes of U.S. 60, traveling about 70 yards into a field on the south side of the highway before coming to rest, authorities said, and fled before police arrived.
