Eldor John Lorenz, 92, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Farrar, Mo., son of John G. and Martha G. Mangels Lorenz. He and Verna Noennig were married June 15, 1946. She passed away May 22, 2006.

Eldor was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He was a life member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and served at various churches as school board member, treasurer and elder. He was a member of Lutheran Laymen's League and the American Veterans Association.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in France, Germany and Austria with the 66th Air Artillery as communications chief and master sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Eldor was a purchasing agent for 18 years for Otis Elevator Co. in St. Louis, then was employed in the health-care field, serving as administrator of various nursing homes, retiring in 1986 from Jackson Manor.

At the request of the Missouri governor, he served a number of years on the advisory committee of the Division of Aging. He also was a preceptor for University of Missouri-Columbia for internship of future licensed nursing home administrators.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Maxine Michel of Cape Girardeau and Kristine (Steve) Holmes of Centralia, Ill.; two grandchildren, Jason Michel and Leah Gordillo of Cape Girardeau; and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Weber.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Lorenz, four brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating. Private interment will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Saxony Lutheran High School, Trinity Lutheran School or Saxony of Frohna Memorial Fund.
