Chester Donald Lemonds, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 21, 1930, in St. Louis, to Chester Arthur and Addie Mae Watkins Lemonds. He and Marilyn Casebelt Halter were married in May 1956.

Chester attended worship services at the Salvation Army.

He served his country in both the Marine Corps and the U.S. Army.

Chester was an airplane mechanic for many years at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis.

He attended Chaffee High School. He was a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and earned his pilot's license at the Cape Girardeau Airport in 1957.

Survivors include two sons, John Richard Lemonds of Bloomington, Minn., and Charles Quinton Lemonds of Gleisdorf, Austria; two stepdaughters, Geneva I. Lamb of Bentonville, Va., and Janet R. Barbee of Virginia; two sisters, Joan Jones and Lee Niehart of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Golda Anna Hope of Germany; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Mary Katherine Ruffo; and three sisters, Dorothy Ruth Lemonds, Lora Mae Dean and Shirley Cypress.

Private service is planned at a later date.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
