James Adam Kaempfer, 42, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 16, 1971, in Cape Girardeau to James F. and Susan Johns Kaempfer. He was previously married to Melissa Smith and they had two sons.

Adam was a 1989 graduate of Jackson High School.

Thereafter he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he earned an associate degree in aircraft technology and was an armament specialist. Locations in which he served include Korea, Alaska and the United States. He retired as a staff sergeant in 2009, and always remarked that his military career was the accomplishment of which he was most proud.

When time allowed, Adam liked to hunt and fish, but enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his sons.

Loving survivors include his sons, Tyler and Blaine Kaempfer of Jackson; his parents, James (Debra) Kaempfer of Gordonville and Susan (Patrick) Sullivan of Jacksonville, N.C.; two siblings, Matt Kaempfer of Elgin, Texas, and Nikita (Patrick) Hayes of Jacksonville; and two dear friends, Theresa Vaughn of Jackson and Amie Jo Dinsio of Las Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until time of service today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Roberts officiating. Full military honors will be conducted.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
