Lamplighters FCE Club

Sharon Bogenpohl was hostess for the Lamplighters FCE's April meeting. Before the business session, members enjoyed a luncheon prepared by the hostess.

The hostess shared two devotional thoughts, "Goodness" and "Having Weight Problems?" Roll call was answered by sharing a tip for spring cleaning.

During the business session, the following actions took place: Jo Ann Hahs reported that more than 200 dolls were taken to Child Advocacy Day by Missouri FCE members and gave highlights from the state board meeting held in April in Jefferson City, Mo. It was decided that the club would have a yard sale on June 8 at the home of Karen Eakers. The club will be host a birthday party at 1:30 p.m. June 4 at Jackson Manor. It was also announced that Lamplighters received a Gold Seal certificate for the work accomplished in 2012.

Members decided to do personal visits and small gifts for Roberta Allen during her recovery from surgery. Teresa Hinkebein will purchase and help deliver books to the hospitals for the Wednesday "Books for Newborn" emphasis. Five members, Jackie Kurre, Verla Mangels, Karen McLane, Linda Sebaugh, and Hahs, plan to attend the Spring District Meeting to be held Tuesday in Patterson, Mo.

The next date for sewing weighted Autism items will be June 10 at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Center.

It was announced that the next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of Eakers. The theme will be "Pink is Pretty" and each member needs to wear a pink hat and bring a big purse with lots of items. There will also be a purse exchange.

After singing "Happy Birthday" to Bev Meyer and Eakers, the meeting adjourned and members went to Appleton Merchantile for a tour and shopping.

The Jackson Heritage Association held its annual meeting on May 5, at the Oliver House Museum, prior to the 2013 Wine Tasting event. President Kyle Mabuce called the meeting to order. Treasurer Misty Mabuce presented the yearly financial report. A list of recent improvements to the Oliver House Museum are new front sidewalks and porch, extension of the brick sidewalks, seating area around the old oak tree in the garden, refurbishing the Senator's Study and continued work in Marie's Gardens.

The Jackson Heritage Association/Peerman Heritage Award recipient for 2013 was Gerald Jones. He has been active in the educational and business aspects of Jackson for many years. He taught biology and science and was the varsity track and cross country coach in the Jackson School district from 1962-1967. He then worked with the Missouri Department of Education for six years before becoming the owner and publisher of the Jackson Cash-Book Journal newspaper. He was also the owner of Associated Inventory Specialists. He was president of the Missouri Jaycees in 1971-72 and served in the U.S. Army and Missouri National Guard for nine years. He was presiding Commissioner of Cape Girardeau County from 1995 until 2012. Fred and Pam Jones received the award for his brother Gerald, who was unable to attend.

Matt Palisch accepted the Unsung Hero Award for Mr. and Mrs. Billie Joe Thompson for their continued support of the city of Jackson and its heritage.

The Jackson Heritage Association officers for 2013 are Cathi Stoverink, president; Ronnie Maxwell, vice-president; Misty Mabuce, treasurer; Bonnie Macke, secretary. Board members are Margie Schwent, Mary Ann Burgess, Vicki Lane, Phyllis Seabaugh, Dr. Stuart MacIntosh, Pat Fosse, Melody Hagans, Cheryl Mabuce and Palisch.

Festivities continued with the 2013 Wine Tasting.
