Missouri's Republican House Speaker Tim Jones announced Friday that Cape Girardeau County Sheriff John Jordan is part of a panel created to investigate the sharing of concealed-carry weapons permit holders' information.

Jones announced Jordan's appointment to the Bipartisan Investigative Committee on Privacy Protection via news release. The committee's purpose is "investigating allegations surrounding the Department of Revenue's potential violations of Missourians' privacy," according to the release.

Jones and Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, have called for disclosure from Gov. Jay Nixon's administration about how concealed-carry permit information is handled since a Stoddard County man filed a lawsuit earlier this year opposing the Department of Revenue's practice of scanning the permits during the driver's licensing process. The Missouri State Highway Patrol later admitted a list of permit holders was shared with a federal investigator.

Nixon has since halted the scanning of concealed-carry documents.

"His reputation as a hardworking, no-nonsense law enforcement official makes him a perfect fit for this committee, and I look forward to hearing his recommendations about how our state can avoid a similar incident in the future," Jones said of Jordan.

Jordan is a Republican.
