FARMINGTON, Mo. -- The 1138th Engineer Company of the U.S. Army National Guard will return today after a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan. The unit has its headquarters in Farmington and deployed 93 Guard soldiers, including some from Cape Girardeau and Jackson, to conduct route clearance support and missions in Afghanistan. The unit completed more than 120 missions, clearing 25 routes of more than 70 improvised explosive devices. Members are scheduled to return in small groups throughout the day with a formal community welcome home ceremony to honor the unit later this summer.
