Gary Allen McDaniel, 72, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Montgomery City, Mo., died Monday, May 13, 2013, at his home.

He was born Dec. 27, 1940, in Canalou, Mo., to Adren A. and Lena M. Martin McDaniel. He and Shirley M. Tippit were married Oct. 14, 1967, in St. Charles, Mo.

Gary was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the Army.

He was a lab technician for quality control with RC Can Company, Boise-Cascade and Sunoco Gramm Co. in Earth City, Mo., for 27 years. He retired in 2006 from Holland USA Manufacturing in Warrenton, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley M. McDaniel of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Lisa McDaniel of Sedgewickville, Mo.; two sons, Robert Sumner (Donna) of Cape Girardeau and Guy Sumner of Wellsville, Mo.; three sisters, Winnie Wait of Overland, Mo., Jinnie Wait of Hillsboro, Mo., and Helen Sibley of Matthews, Mo.; a brother, Martin McDaniel of Patton, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bruce Sumner; three brothers; and a sister.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with family members officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, with full military honors by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, Southeast Hospice and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
