Jackson public works will begin flushing water distribution and hydrant systems in the east-central area of the city, according to a news release sent by the department.

Flushing will be from 8 a.m. to noon June 3 and will continue until the program is complete.

The annual flushing is a standard water utility practice that removes built-up sediment and ensures safe, clean and clear water, the release said. According to the release, residents' water may appear cloudy or discolored during flushing.

While flushing is occurring in neighborhoods, public works recommends residents refrain from doing laundry, and open and run taps to clear discolored water and wait for water to clear before drinking or usage.
