Southeast District Spring FCE

The Southeast District Spring FCE Meeting was held on May 14 at the Community Center in Patterson, Mo., with the theme, "Journey to Learning from 1936 to 2013." There were 17 members from Cape Girardeau County attending along with Mary Gosche, FCE consultant, with other members from Butler, Perry, Ripley and Wayne counties with a total attendance of 53. Morning refreshments were served by the FCE members of Wayne County.

The meeting was opened with the singing of the Club Collect led by Linda Sebaugh. Hearthel Miler, Wayne County FCE President, welcomed the group. The pledges to the United States and Missouri Flags were recited. JoAnn Hahs, Southeast District director, had some announcements and introduced various FCE members to the group.

The thought for the day was given by Lois Fritsche, Perry County FCE president. Roll call was answered by each club president giving highlights of their club work.

The morning program was presented by MAFCE president Mary Martens, from Richmond, Mo. She reviewed the new reports the clubs are asked to do in Action, Education and Leadership for 2013. She also went over the County Standard of Achievement Report Form. Three trifolds were on display to be taken to the National FCE Conference in July along with reports in the categories of Action, Education and Leadership to be judged at the National FCE Conference. Martens presented a program on "What will Spring Bring?" This was followed by a program presented by Georgia Reid, Central District director, from Houstonia, Mo., on "Stay Strong, Stay Healthy."

Martens presented membership certificates to Fritsche, Perry County FCE member, for 55 years of membership and the Farrar FCE Club for 55 years of membership. Wayne County FCE Club was presented a certificate for 75 years of membership.

Hannah Johnson, third place winner in the Essay and Artwork Contest, read her essay to the group. She is from Wayne County. The first- and second-place winners from Cape Girardeau and Perry County were not able to attend.

After lunch, Wayne County FCE member, Louise Everhart, presented a program regarding helping her granddaughter who has autism. The granddaughter is now 25 years old. In addition, Miler presented a learning lesson on making paper dolls, entitled "Back to Childhood."

The silent auction winners were announced and the auction made a profit of $314.50. In addition, 50/50 chances were sold with Linda Barber from Perry County winning. The group is also selling chances for a Missouri Basket to be given away at the MAFCE Conference Sept. 18 through 20 in Jefferson City, Mo.

Betty Schalk and Lynn Maples invited members to attend the National FCE Conference to be held July 18 through 21 in Fargo, N.D.

JoAnn Hahs, Southeast District director, gave out instructions for the 2013 Essay and Artwork Contest Guidelines on Respect, the tax exempt letter and the by-laws to be voted on at the MAFCE Conference on Sept. 19.

Door prizes were donated by the counties and given away by Wayne County FCE members.

The Fall District FCE meeting will be held on Oct. 10 at the Assembly of God Church in Doniphan, Mo., and hosted by Ripley County.

John Guild Chapter, NSDAR

The 114th Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution was held May 2 through 5 in Columbia, Mo.

Nine members of the John Guild Chapter and one member of the Children of the American Revolution attended the conference and reported back to the chapter on May 15 at the Jackson City Library.

Pamela Johnson, regent, opened the meeting with the DAR Ritual.

The program was given on the MSSDAR State Conference by those who attended the conference.

Cheryl Cook and Johnson served as protocol for the conference; Kelsey Tuschhoff served as a page; Shirley Young and Cook provided some of the entertainment.

Morgan Lake, Johnson, Young, and Cook attended the State Officers Club Banquet on May 2.

Awards received were: Missouri Honor Roll Level One; Scrapbook received the highest rating; Recognition of service to our Nation's Veterans; Stars of Patriotism Project; American Indian Project; Outstanding monetary contributions supporting our wounded Military Personnel; NSDAR award for traveling the Bone's Lick trail and finding 31 of the 33 markers; Preservation of State Headquarters "Roslyn Heights" in Booneville; Outstanding junior Beth Biri.

Members elected to or serving in state positions are: Lorilee Short, elected vice president chapter regents club; Lake, serving as state vice regent; Johnson serving as vice president of state officers club; and Cook serving as state page chairman.

Rebecca Chipman and Jennifer Groves were approved for membership.

Johnson announced that American History Awards were given to the following high school students: Taylor Banks, Woodland High School; Elsie McGruder, Meadow Heights High School; Sam Unger, Saxony Lutheran High School; and Cheyenne Lingle, Jackson High School.

The next meeting will be June 19 at the home of Mary Meyer in Cape Girardeau. The program will be an auction of new or slightly used purses with money used to help fund the 100th Anniversary of the Chapter which will be March 2014.

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary annual picnic will be held at noon on June 12, at the Lutheran Shelter at Arena Park, which is directly in front of the Arena Building. Fried chicken will be provided and members are to bring a covered dish, and their own table service. Tea and lemonade will be provided, however if a member wants soda they need to provide their own drink.

Female veterans who are residents of the Missouri Veterans Home will be special guests.

Jane Grojean, co-chair of the Girls State committee announced, the six young ladies attending Girls State will be our special guests at the July meeting.
