Carl Dean Whitener, 69, of Jackson passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his home.
He was born July 15, 1943, in Glenallen, Mo., son of Rafe and Bertie Cook Whitener. He and Roberta Jane Crites were married March 29, 1970.
Carl was owner and operator of Whitener's Auto Repair for 43 years. He was a member of Southeast Missouri Modelers Association. He loved boating and fishing.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include a daughter, Kristi (Kenny) Heise of Cape Girardeau; a son, James Lee Whitener of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Nina (Adam) Kirchhoff, EmmaLee Heise and Jacob Heise, all of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Velda Smith of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a twin sister.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Southeast Hospice or Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary.
