SIKESTON, Mo. -- Maxine Woods, 87, died Sunday, May 26, 2013, at her home in Sikeston.
She was born April 12, 1926, in Chaffee, Mo., to Clyde and Ruth Shields Jenkins. She and James Stanley Woods were married April 5, 1943. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 2011.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston and Gleaners Sunday School Class.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Barbara Kaye Hathhorn of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jimmy Woods and fiancee Jessi Tucker of Sikeston, Ellen and Glenn Collom of Benton, Mo., Leasa and Kevin Maxfield of Cape Girardeau and Christy and Ed Huffman of Oak Ridge; and four great-grandchildren, Victoria Collom, Payton Maxfield and Logan and Zack Huffman.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steve Woods, on April 30, 2011; and a great-grandson, Levi Stephen Collom, on March 18, 2012.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. David Ross, pastor of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, will officiate. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Levi's Adventure Trail, an outdoor nature-inspired playground being built in memory of Maxine Wood's great-grandson Levi Stephen Collom.
