CLAYTON, Mo. -- Some residents in parts of north St. Louis County are raising concerns about the growing number of dogs running loose.

The problem prompted a town hall meeting Thursday. KMOX Radio reported that several people said the problem is so bad they're afraid to go out for a morning jog or walk.

Animal control officers recommended that those out for a walk carry an umbrella, cane or stick to ward off the dogs. They promised to respond to every call, but declined to say how bad the problem is.
