Elvin Renfro

Elvin "Russ" Renfro, 86, of Jackson died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Burkburnett, Texas, the son of William B. and Eva Tyre Renfro. He married Leila Jordan, and she survives.

Russ served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the IBEW Local No. 659 in Medford, Ore. He worked as an electrician in a nuclear power plant and as an industrial electrician for heavy equipment, and he then worked for NAB Electric until age 80.

He is survived by his wife, Leila, of Jackson; his children, Don Renfro of Havana, Ark., Janet Ake of Danville, Ark., and Randy Renfro of Havana; a stepson, Harold Crite of Marion, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Cindy Ruiz of Aurora, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Jody Ake, Bradley, Brian and Josh Renfro, Jennifer O'Hara and Philip Renfro; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Elva Brown of Medford, Ore.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and John; and a sister in infancy, Judy.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

Funeral services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
