Over the last few months, about 150 individuals through four classes have participated in a training program called Run for God. The class, which met for 12 weeks, focuses on the spiritual and athletic components of running, showing the parallels between faith and the endurance sport of running.

Each week the classes met to study a devotional and running basics. There was plenty of running as well.

On Saturday, these runners and others will participate in a special graduation 5K that also will raise money for the Amen Center, a homeless shelter in Delta.

Organizer Scott McQuay said as of Monday, 325 runners had signed for the race.

There's still time to sign up. Online registration atcaperoadrunners.org will continue until midnight Wednesday. Registration also will be open from 6:15 to 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the race site. The registration fee is $30.

The run/walk begins at 8 a.m. at Lynwood Baptist Church, where the race also will finish.

Thank you to McQuay, other Run for God leaders, sponsors and Lynwood Baptist Church. This looks to be a wonderful event that celebrates the hard work of many and raises funds for an important organization in the Amen Center.

If you're interested in participating in a future Run for God course, email McQuay at rscottmcquay@gmail.com.
