It's not too early too start planning for the weekend, and on Saturday the Perry Park Center and city park in Perryville, Mo., will be bustling with fun things to do.

Play Day at the Park will begin at 10 a.m. at the Perryville City Park. There will be vendors, games and other carnival-type activities. The park's new 18-hole disc golf course will open at 10:30 a.m., and the theater, which has undergone recent renovations, is scheduled to show the four-part "Shrek" series for $1 beginning at 10 a.m.

There will be demonstrations in the weight room, which also has been updated. Children can enjoy the bounce house, and there will be special pool activities.

There also will be a separate event at the park on Saturday. The charity Batting for Brayden Softball Tournament begins at 8 a.m., and proceeds will support Brayden Deckard, a 14-month-old diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

Hats off to organizers of the events. It looks to be a fantastic day of fun in the park. We hope you consider attending.
