GRAFTON, Ill. -- A Mississippi River ferry service linking southwestern Illinois' Jersey County to Missouri's St. Charles County is about to be back in business after being shut down for more than two years.
The [Alton] Telegraph reported the Grafton ferry will resume Friday, thanks to dredging efforts that cleared river silt that kept the service from operating.
Owned by the 670-resident city of Grafton northeast of St. Louis, the ferry had served as a key shuttle for motorists trying to cross the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois rivers.

The ferry will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
