CAIRO, Ill. -- Residents may notice changes in their tap water, according to a news release from Illinois American Water.

The company, which supplies water to customers in Cairo, is switching to well water as it performs maintenance at the water treatment plant, the release stated.

The 105-foot-deep well, drilled last year, supplies groundwater that may have a higher mineral content than surface water, the company reported. The elevated mineral content could cause hard water, which looks different when heated and can cause spots on dishes.
