Nikki Peters fired a three-hit shutout Wednesday as the Notre Dame softball team remained undefeated with a 8-0 win at Affton in the St. Louis area.

Peters struck out six and walked one.

The Bulldogs (3-0) banged out 14 hits, led by Jessica Westrich. She went 4 for 4 with two triples and a double.

Tiffany Wood homered, tripled and drove in four runs. Christina Scherer went 3 for 3 and Riley Gant added two hits.

Notre Dame will host its annual Softball Fest today through Saturday.

Saxony overcame an early three-run deficit and remained perfect on the young season with a road win.

The Crusaders (2-0), who fell behind 3-0 after two innings, scored the game's final seven runs.

Kelli Brunke pitched the last five innings for the victory. She allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one.

Ashley Steck had three of Saxony's seven hits. Grace Mirly added two hits, including a triple. She also stole two bases.

Perryville (1-3) had nine hits, led by Kailyn Fahnestock's 3 for 3 performance.

The Notre Dame girls placed first in the 17-team Murphysboro (Ill.) Invitational while the boys finished second in their 21-team division.

Katie Hanners was the top runner for Notre Dame with a seventh-place time of 21 minutes, 27 seconds.

Jacob Meadors posted a seventh-place time of 17:29 to lead the Bulldogs in the boys' division.

Both Notre Dame's junior varsity squads placed first as well. Taylor Janota and Matt Salter were the top runners for the Bulldogs.

Eric Craiglow and Duncan McKinley each had an assist for Central (3-1).

Goalkeeper Nathan Mecum made two saves.

Saxony Lutheran kicked off its season with a loss to the Raiders in the opening round of the Festus Invitational Tournament.

The Crusaders will return to the field today at 4 p.m. against Hancock in the tournament.
