Dexter handed Jackson its first loss of the season, going on a 9-0 run in the first set and adding an 11-0 run in the second on its way to a 25-16, 25-5 volleyball win Thursday in Dexter, Mo.

Jessica Lindsey opened the match by scoring four of Dexter's first five points on kills. Jackson knotted it at 4-4 before the Bearcats rattled off the next nine points behind Lindsey to take a 13-4 lead. Jackson never got closer than eight the remainder of the first set.

Dexter (2-0) built a 4-2 lead in the second set, then scored the next 11 points with Delaney Pulley serving to increase its lead to 15-2.

Jackson pulled within 17-5 before Dexter scored the final eight points.

Hailey Mouser led Jackson (1-1) with five kills.

* JV: Dexter won 25-15, 25-23.

Notre Dame 2, Farmington 1

The visiting Bulldogs lost the opener 22-25, then won the next two 25-22 and 25-18 as Lydia Goodson led with 10 kills.

Kaitlin Welter and Taylor Feeney each added nine kills for Notre Dame (1-0), while Welter had 16 assists and Ronnie Young 13.

Karsen Powers had 24 digs, with Annie Siebert and Madeline Rosenquist adding 12 each.

"We would not have won the game if it wasn't for their play in the back row," Bulldogs coach Tara Stroup said. "Those three played great defense."

Woodland Tournament

Meadow Heights finished 4-2 to place first in Pool B in Marble Hill, Mo.

The Panthers split with Zalma, 14-19 and 19-15, and Bell City, 15-19 and 19-8, before sweeping Oak Ridge 19-9, 19-15.

Other matches had Oak Ridge splitting with Bell City, 13-19 and 21-20; Oak Ridge sweeping Zalma 19-16 and 19-10; and Zalma splitting with Bell City 19-17 and 15-19.

Today at 4 p.m., No. 1 Woodland will face No. 8 Zalma and No. 2 Saxony Lutheran plays No. 7 Oak Ridge. At 5 p.m., No. 4 Advance plays No. 5 Meadow Heights, and No. 3 Peopold takes on No. 6 Bell City.

The semifinal and championship matches will follow.

SOFTBALL

Windsor 6, Jackson 4

Melanie Dockins went 3 for 3 with a double and drove in all four runs in the Indians' road loss.

Kayla Keith went 3 for 4 and scored twice, while Megan Clippard had two hits and scored two runs for Jackson (4-4).

Kelsie Meystedt took the loss, going the distance while allowing six runs on eight hits, walking one.

Amy Blattel led Notre Dame with an 87 as the Bulldogs placed 11th out of 16 teams at the Rockwood Summit Invitational in O'Fallon, Mo.

St. Joseph's Academy won the meet with a team score of 333. Notre Dame finished with 383.

Emily Goldenstein of Parkway West was the meet medalist with a 4-under 68 at The Falls Golf Club's par-72 layout.

Other scorers for Notre Dame were Camille Brewer 91, Maddie Beussink 91, and Maris Parker 114.

BASEBALL

Bloomfield 9, Leopold 8

Host Bloomfield scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to rally past the Wildcats.

Leopold (0-2) led 9-5 after five innings before Bloomfield mounted its rally.

Casey Graham was 4 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs to lead the Wildcats. Austin Bucher was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Dylan Vandeven took the loss in relief.

Saxony allowed two second-half goals -- one on a penalty kick -- in dropping its second game in the round-robin Festus Tournament.

The Crusaders (0-2) will play Festus on Saturday at noon in the round-robin tournament.

Notre Dame SoccerFest

Ian Bergman and Pablo Mattingly had two goals each as Perryville blanked Poplar Bluff 7-0 in its opening match of the Notre Dame SoccerFest.

Bergman, Kyle Wood, Juan Hernandez and Luke Schlichting each scored in the first 20 minutes as the Pirates (3-1) dominated throughout.

Bergman added another goal in the second half, while Mattingly scored the Pirates' final two.

Emanuel Mirando had two assists for Perryville. Luke Dobbelare totalled four saves.

The Pirates will take on Carbondale today at 5:30 p.m.

SWIMMING

Alex Snyder came away with a pair of first-place finishes in leading Jackson to a second-place finish in a tri-meet at Mehlville, Mo.

Snyder won the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 46.82 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.82.
