Mrs. Chris Stiver, co-chairman of the Rose Display Garden project sponsored by the Council of Garden Clubs, reports the garden looks as it should for the first time since vandals severely damaged the garden four months ago.

The transformation of Kingshighway from a narrow, outdated road to a wide, modern highway has reached the halfway mark toward completion; a state Highway Department engineer says all concrete and asphalt, except for the final coat, will be in place by cold weather, giving motorists the use of all four lanes of pavement.

A.A. Boss, a member of the industrial committee, reports to the Jackson Chamber of Commerce the establishment of a hosiery mill in Jackson is practically assured; the factory will be located near the shoe factory and will employ 46 to 70 people at the beginning.

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- It is reported that 200 to 300 cotton pickers have ceased work in Mississippi County in a movement for higher wages; strikers are reportedly demanding $1 per 100 pounds of cotton picked; they now get between 75 and 90 cents per 100 pounds.

Thomas S. Lilly, a hustling young man, has opened a flour and feed agency in the Cape County Milling building on the Cape Girardeau Northern tracks where they cross William Street.

In a long statement made to the Cape Girardeau City Council and mayor and filed with the city clerk yesterday, the Missouri Public Utilities Co. agreed to accept the electric light and power part of the franchise granted in an ordinance which was passed recently; it cannot accept the part granting the water franchise because of objections and omissions.
