Two men with bandannas over their faces broke into a home on the 500 block of South Benton Street and threatened people living there, police say.

Cape Girardeau police still are investigating the burglary reported at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Darin Hickey, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said officers responded to a call of a burglary. The victim told police she heard voices coming from another part of her house. When she went downstairs, Hickey said the woman saw two men with bandannas over their faces, making threats to one of her family members.

After a short altercation, Hickey said, the suspects ran north from the residence. He said nothing was taken from the home, and no one was injured.

"The argument led the victim to believe that her family member may have been familiar with the individuals, but we don't have any names at this point," Hickey said.

There have been similar incidents recently in the city.

"We've had a couple other reports like this," Hickey said. "In the end if they [could] turn out to be related to each other, but we limit our investigation if we automatically assume they're related."
