CHAFFEE, Mo. -- James C. "Jim" Poinsett, 66, of Chaffee passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the Southeast Hospital emergency room in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 24, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, to the late Calvin and Vera Lamb Poinsett. He and Margaret E. Nothdurft were married Nov. 22, 1967, at Trinity Methodist Church near Delta.

Jim was a construction inspector for the city of Cape Girardeau, owned and operated JIM-N-I Construction in Bollinger County from 1969 to 1976, and he and Margaret owned and operated Professional Tax Service in Chaffee the last 32 years. He was an avid reader, gardener and loved to travel.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of the home; a brother, Mike (Vickie) Poinsett of Jackson; two nephews, Jamie Poinsett of Chowchilla, Calif., and DeWayne Buttrey of Fisk, Mo.; two nieces, Keri (Gary) Fisher of Cape Girardeau and Tracy Nothdurft of Loveland, Ohio; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m., with the Revs. Ron Ledbetter, Mike Huffman and Don Kuehle officiating.

A private burial will be at a later date with the Rev. Jack Owens officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trinity Methodist Church and Cemetery Association of which Jim was an active supporter.
