Over 20 local organizations have Christmas light displays at Cape County Park again this year; the annual holiday lighting displays are sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts, the Cape County Park Board and the Cape County Commission.

About 2,400 persons from Cape Girardeau and the surrounding counties benefit from the Salvation Army's Christmas basket program; the Army is distributing 765 food baskets, an increase of about 100 over last year.

Girardeans enjoy a white Christmas; the area received around 4 inches of snow Monday, and much of that remains on the ground.

LUTESVILLE, Mo. -- Marble Hill, Mo., gave Lutesville the gift of water for Christmas; while the towns don't normally exchange gifts, Marble Hill stepped up when Lutesville's lone water well stopped pumping recently; the towns worked out a plan Monday afternoon to string a fire hose across Crooked Creek, connect the two water systems and give Lutesville a moderate supply of water.

Christmas is observed in most of Cape Girardeau's churches at regular Sunday services; Sunday schools have been held throughout the week, and one or two churches had their Christmas music a week early, before college student choir members left town for the holidays

A new rector has been secured for Christ Episcopal Church; the Rev. C.L. Stanley will come here soon after the first part of the year from a church in the East; he will fill the vacancy left by the resignation of the Rev. A.H. Beardsley, who left here for a church in Shawnee, Okla.

1913

Postmaster E.W. Flentge has his mail clerks out in force delivering mail until noon; in order that no one is disappointed over failure to receive a Christmas present, parcel post carriers work all day to deliver packages.

The Camp Fire Girls stroll about town singing Christmas carols in the evening; Camp Fire Girls are trying to revive this old English custom in different cities in the United States.
